It would be fantastic if that was the number of acres I owned but twenty two point seven is the number of acres of productive earth it takes to support MY lifestyle. Me, mine, just myself... And here I thought I was doing so well. I don't buy bottled water, I eat organic foods most of the time and I have florescent light bulbs in some of my light fixtures. Geez, nothing like a test to make you hide your head in shame. I'm no ecological fanatic but I do my best. Something just doesn't make sense to this wacky brain. I took their carbon footprint test (see below) and it says "if everyone lived as I did, it would take 5.1 planet earths to provide enough resourses. Okay, so maybe I could do a little better in conservation, but get this. The population of the earth in 1965 was 3.3 billion. In 1999 it double to 6.7 billion, which would mean that if everyone lived like me (22.7 acres to support me) or worse it would take something like 152 billion acres to support our activities... Huh? I'm no wacky scientiest but "How the hec are we living NOW?" There are only 37 billion acres in the world. We only have one planet earth and although we do need to make some changes, we don't seem to be falling off the earth or anything.. What gives? Can anyone tell me? I'm sooo confused... Add Comment |
