Don't ask me how I was talked into this one because I don't really know. All I can say is that, currently, it is a LOVE/HATE relationship...
Sometime back in April, my "SO" talked me into going on a "little" hike to spend some time together on a weekend. Okay, I was game, Joshua Tree National Park, the desert, somewhat hot but sounded fun.
First time out fairly pleasant. Various short hikes, saw quite a few others to pass a few cordial smiles and healthy hellos. Picked up a bit of knowledge along the way, cute bushes etc.
But just as I thought we were done for the day, my SO wanted more... NO, I'm screaming in my head, I'm done. Oh wait, drive? Hey, I'm all for DRIVING... Drove up to Key's view. Great view. That's the San Andreas fault in the center of the pic.
Okay, nice day, nice hike. We drive back down the hill and shoot, he stops AGAIN.... Huh? Guess what? He wants to try another trail. Lost Horse Mine.... It's almost evening hours and he wants to try another trail??? Who does he think he's got here? Lynn Hill? (one of the most prominent climbers featured. Lynn became famous in the 1980s when she lived at Camp 4 in Yosemite Valley and became the first person to free climb (yes without any ropes!) The Nose of El Capitan! Quite impressive!)
Well, let's just say we turned around shortly after we started. This one was uphill from the get go and I DON'T DO uphill, especially when I thought I was done... Maybe next time. MAYBE a little further, maybe not. Maybe never again!
But my SO had other ideas. "Hey how about we go on another hike?" he says the next weekend. What? I'm just recovering from last weekend. I'm not a spring chicken you know. "But the weather is nice in the desert now and we won't be able to come here much longer," he says. Oh geez, he is really looking forward to this, so okay, I'm a good sport. Joshua Tree here we come again!
More genesis to follow, stay tuned.. (hopefully he doesn't kill me in the meantime) :)
